Summary
This tutorial shows you exactly how to convert a prepared proposal from a Deal into a full Project in BuilderPal. The proposal becomes locked as the official budget, and BuilderPal automatically creates a complete draft project with schedule, tasks, cost codes, documents, and team assignments — ready for immediate use by your crew.
Prerequisites
Admin (GC), Admin (SUB), Team Business Manager, or Team Project Manager role
An existing Deal in the Client Dashboard with a prepared proposal (Draft or Sent status)
Steps
Open the Client Dashboard — From the bottom navigation on mobile (or left sidebar on desktop), tap CRM to see your pipeline.
Open the Deal — Tap the deal card (e.g., “123 William Street - Clooney - Kitchen”) to open its full detail view.
Locate the proposal — Scroll down to the PROPOSALS section to view the existing proposal card. If the deal doesn't have a proposal created, tap the button to create one.
Convert the proposal to a project — On the proposal card, tap Convert to Project to begin turning the proposal into a draft project.
Confirm the conversion — Review the warning message explaining that the proposal will be locked and a draft project created. Tap CONFIRM to proceed.
Verify the Project — After confirmation, the deal status updates to Active Project. Open the Messages tab to see the system note confirming the project was started, and confirm the new project appears in your Projects list.
Confirmation
You’ll know it worked when:
The deal stage changes to Active Project (green indicator).
A green success banner appears confirming the action.
The Messages tab shows activity such as “Michael George started the project.”
The proposal is now locked and available as the official project budget. The schedule, budget, tasks, and project details are transferred from the proposal into the new project.
FAQ
Q: How do I put the proposal into a project?
After the proposal is converted, BuilderPal creates a draft project first. Open the project and update it from planning mode when you’re ready.
You may also be prompted through the client updates modal after the project has been created. This lets you control when the project is actually made active for your team and client, instead of making it live automatically during the proposal conversion.
Q: Can I still edit the proposal after conversion?
No — once the Deal is marked Won and converted, the proposal is locked as the official budget/estimate for the Project. Any changes after that should be handled through Change Orders inside the Project.
Q: What happens to the original Deal after conversion?
The Deal stays in your CRM pipeline marked as Won for historical reference, but active work continues inside the new Project.
Q: Can I convert a proposal back to a draft Deal?
No — conversion is one-way. If you need to undo it, contact your BuilderPal admin or support to manually revert the Project.
